World Health Day

What Is World Health Day?
World Health Day is a health awareness day celebrated each year on the 7th of April. It is sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO held the first World Health Assembly in 1948 where participants decided to make the 7th of April every year World Health Day. It is a celebration of the founding of the WHO but at the same time it draws global attention to important subjects in connection with global health. There are international, regional and local events on the day and there is a specific theme each year. World Health Day is acknowledged by both governments and non-governmental organizations all over the world.
Purpose of World Health Day
The primary purpose of World Health Day is to put the spotlight on important subjects with regards to global health. The theme for the 2015 World Health Day is to bring attention to the importance of food since unsafe food is known to cause the deaths of about 2 million people worldwide each year. The food supply today is becoming more globalized causing the emergence of new threats. It will bring awareness to the different bacteria, parasites, viruses or other potentially harmful substances.
